Need for Speed is a long running racing franchise from Electronic Arts. The franchise has spawned several successful titles throughout a decade. With internet speeds reaching more than 20 MB, online multiplayer gaming has become a standard for most games. Many developers are including multiplayer online modes into their games, which was not present some years ago. Need for Speed has also taken a step further into this territory by bringing the series to online multiplayer gaming. Gamers can now experience need for speed online with their friends and families, at the same time compete with other gamers from across the world.

The first game in the series that is completely multiplayer based is need for speed world. The title is free to play initially, but after reaching level 10 of your profile, you are required to purchase a pack that lets you progress further. Need for speed online experience is almost the same as other need for speed games. The main difference is that you are instantly ported to a chat room where you can start finding other players to compete against. You and your friends can also take on each other by using the online feature of the game.

Need for speed world works like a massively multiplayer online game. You start off in an open world city where plenty of other players are driving around you. The street racer would have been fun if the game had refined some of its online elements. The need for speed online experience is destroyed when you find out there isn’t much of a co operative mode present in the game. One of the best thing about MMOs is that you get to tag along with other people to take on missions that are meant to be done together. In need for speed world, such feature is missing.

The only thing you can do in this open world need for speed is compare your stats and talk to other players.  The main gameplay of the game is divided into four different parts. The first of which asks you to explore the city. But exploring the city in this need for speed online game is pretty much useless because you can teleport to locations where there is a race about to happen. So driving in the city really doesn’t have any purpose other than just checking out the environment.

The other two game types are your very typical race type game modes. One is titled sprints while the other is titled circuits. In sprints, you simply race your way through point A to point B on the track. In circuits you must race your way through a number of laps to win. The need for speed online experience would have been so much better if players could actually interact in some way with the open world city. But instead, all races take place in an instance format where anything from the city is not present at all.
